Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X on Saturday night that UNSCR 2231 will expire on October 18, 2025, and that terminated sanctions cannot be revived.

Araghchi stated that in his address to the UN Security Council, he outlined how the U.S. has betrayed diplomacy and how the E3 countries have undermined it. He emphasized, "None of what I have seen in New York suggests that the failure of dialogue is accidental."

He further stressed that the U.S. and E3’s invocation of the snapback mechanism is a blatant abuse of the JCPOA and UNSCR 2231. He reiterated that terminated sanctions cannot be revived and that any attempt to do so is null and void.
