The U.S. government will revoke the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro for participating in a protest and delivering a speech in support of Palestine in New York.

During a speech at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that he would open a list of volunteers to fight for Palestine against Israel, even declaring he would personally join the battle if necessary.

He said, “If the president of Colombia has to go to that battle, I’m not afraid; I’ve been in others before.”

The U.S. State Department later posted on X: “Earlier today, Colombian president Gustavo Petro stood on a NYC street and urged U.S. soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence. We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions.”

Responding to the move, Colombian Interior Minister Armando Benedetti wrote on X: “The only one whose visa should have been revoked was Netanyahu, but since the empire protects him, they target the one who dared to tell them the truth to the face.”

Petro received widespread praise following his critical speech against the United States and Israel during the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. This is while during Netanyahu's speech, most officials left the hall.
