Pakistani police announced Saturday night that the head of the Jamia Farooqi Religious Science Center in Karachi had been killed in an armed attack by unknown individuals.

Iran Press/Asia: Prominent religious scholar Maulana Adil Khan, along with his driver, were shot dead on Saturday in Karachi's Shah Faisal area.

Police said that a third person, Umair, was also accompanying Maulana Adil and survived the incident.

Adil Khan is the son of the late Saleemullah Khan, the former president of Wifaq-ul-Madaris Al-Arabia and is the principal of Jamia Farooqi.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The assassination of the prominent cleric in Karachi came as Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had previously warned of a foreign conspiracy to create chaos in the country by fomenting religious strife.
