Mashhad (IP) - The funeral of the late Mohammad Reza Shajarian, one of Iran's most celebrated singers, was held at 8 am today (Saturday) at the tomb of Ferdowsi, the famous Iranian epic poet, in Tous, almost 30 km north of Mashhad.

Iran Press/Iran News: The funeral was attended by the family of Shajarian, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, provincial officials, music veterans, artists, and enthusiasts.

The late Shajarian has been suffering from lung disease for many years and in recent days he was hospitalized in the intensive care unit due to lung problems and unstable breathing, hypotension, and loss of consciousness.

Mohammad Reza Shajarian, the Iranian classical singer and one of Iran's greatest maestros of Persian traditional music passed away at 80 on Thursday evening at Jam Hospital in Tehran after enduring a long illness.

He was last admitted to the ICU of Jam Hospital on October 5, 2020, due to poor physical condition.

Shajarian was a vocal master whose works are undoubtedly an undeniable part of the audio heritage of Iranian music. 

Mohammad Reza Shajarian (born September 23, 1940, in Mashhad) was a musician, composer, singer, and calligrapher, an artist who managed to leave lasting works for Iranian music during his 5 decades of artistic activity. 

Shajarian has also been active in reciting the Qur'an and Rabbana's prayer (Our Lord) was his most famous Qur'anic recitation. This work has been registered as a national work by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization.

Mohammad Reza Shajarian during a lifetime of his career released more than 60 albums.
