Iran Press/America: The city of Portland, Oregon, USA, today was also the scene of rallies by the American people against the violent and racist actions of the US police.
Hundreds of people in Auckland, California, also demonstrated in solidarity with the boycott of sports games in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake, a black citizen in Kenosha, by the US police.
Police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, shot dead 29-year-old black man Jacob Blake in front of his children on Sunday.
Jacob Blake's family said their son had been shot seven times in the back by police, which paralyzed Jacob and killed him.
Other US cities have seen anti-racism protests in recent weeks.
Also, some months ago, George Floyd died at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer less than two weeks ago, after a shopkeeper accused Floyd of passing a bad $20 bill. The video of Floyd pleading with the officer, who pressed a knee into Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes until Floyd stopped moving, sparked widespread outrage and mass protests across the country.
Philonise Floyd asked committee members to make sure that his brother was “more than another face on a T-shirt, more than another name on a list that will keep growing.”
“George’s calls for help were ignored,” he said. “Please listen to the call I’m making to you now, to the calls of our family, and to the calls ringing out in the streets across the world.”
The demonstrations in the US are the result of anger over the death of an African-American man, George Floyd, who was killed by a white police officer while being arrested.
