Zarif felicitates Iraqis over new government formation

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has congratulated Iraqi people and, Parliament and Government for succeeding to form a new government.

Iran Press/Iran news:  “Congratulations to Prime Minister @MAKadhimi, his Cabinet, the Parliament and most importantly the people of Iraq for success in forming a new Government,” Zarif tweeted on Thursday.

“Iran always stands with the Iraqi people and their choice of administration,” he added.

The Iraqi Parliament voted on Wednesday night to approve the list of ministerial candidates proposed by Mustafa Al-Kazemi.

More than 250 members attended the session in Baghdad and passed 15 ministers while rejecting five – those for trade, justice, culture, agriculture, and migration, as reported by the National.

Mustafa al-Kazemi officially took office as Iraq's prime minister Thursday with a majority vote in the Iraqi parliament.

The handover ceremony of the ministerial posts was held Thursday night in the presence of Adel Abdul-Mahdi and Mustafa al-Kazemi and the ministers of their cabinets.

During his address to Parliament, he pledged to hold transparent and early elections, to restrict access to weapons and to curb corruption.

This is a government that will provide a solution, not add to the crises," Al-Kazemi said.

He said his plan would end foreign interference and “not allow any country to violate Iraq’s national sovereignty”.
