The trial opened in a Tehran court on Saturday for the terrorists involved in the June 2017 attack on the Iranian parliament.

Two terrorist attacks were simultaneously carried out by five (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant ) ISIL terrorists who targeted the Iranian Parliament building and the Mausoleum of late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace) , both in Tehran, on 7 June 2017, leaving 17 civilians dead and 43 others wounded.

8 ISIL terrorists are now being tried at a Tehran Revolutionary Court in the presence of their lawyers and families of the victims of the attacks.

Based on the indictment, one of the suspects joined ISIL in a foreign state almost three years ago and returned to Iran last year with weapons, ammunition, and a suicide belt. He was tasked with coordinating terrorist attacks inside the country.

All the suspects present in the first courtroom session were arrested between 7 and 26 June 2017, and they are accused of purchasing, carrying and keeping light, semi-heavy and heavy arms and carrying out terrorist attacks.

A few days after the Tehran Terror attacks, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched 6 missiles at  lSIL workshops and  centers in Deir Ezzur region of Eastern Syria. This was effectively a bomb-making facility used by the terrorists.

The missile strike was in retaliation for the earlier ISIL twin terror attacks on Tehran.
