Iran PressIran news: The French Academic Palm Award has been given to professor Reza Tavakkoli Moqaddam, of the College of Engineering at the University of Tehran.

The Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Order of Academic Palms) was founded on 17 March 1808 by Napoleon Bonaparte to award devotion and accomplishment in the areas of teaching, scholarship and research.

The order was supposed to be awarded to distinguished individuals at the University of Paris but in 1850 the decoration was divided into two known classes.

On October 4, 1955, at the behest of then French President Jules Gustave René Coty changes were made to the order process and the selection of individuals was granted to the Ministry of Science.

And since 1966 it has been granted to non-French individuals who had made substantial efforts to expand the scientific relationship between their country and France. 207/211/209
