Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Wednesday, Mohammad Eslami, the Road and Urban Development Minister said creating a better living environment in major cities is a top priority for the Iranian government.
Speaking on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in Tehran, Mohammad Eslami pointed out that sustainable development is one of the government's major goals.
He added: "We have to create better conditions for better living, particularly in large cities, which are overcrowded and have many problems like air-pollution, congestion on the roads, and heavy traffic. We have to plan for the future, and we are planning to alter our current public transportation system."
The Minister added: "Our other priority is investing in TODs 'Transit Oriented Development' in order to create an atmosphere which the people can come and do their daily work in these TODs and public transportation would have various branches in the suburbs and towns which are located around megacities."
Elsewhere in his remarks, Eslami said: "The difference between our domestic sustainable housing plan with UN habitat plan is, ours is three dimensional but the UN's plan has one dimension."
