Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking at the closing ceremony of the third edition of the Late Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani Award event on Sunday, Commander Salami reflected on the lessons learned from Syria’s ongoing conflict. He remarked: "The Syrian developments have taught a bitter lesson to everyone: if a nation’s army does not resist its enemies, their entire territories can be seized in the blink of an eye."
Highlighting the sacrifices made by Resistance figures, Salami noted that the people of Damascus have come to understand the significance of steadfastness and the calamities that could have befallen their nation without such dedication.
The people of Syria had their normal lives disrupted, but they now fully grasp how vital Resistance figures are, he added.
The IRGC commander also addressed Iran's former military presence in Syria, aimed at countering the US-backed Daesh terrorist group: "we did not go there to annex their land to our country. We went to help preserve the dignity of their nation."
Salami further warned about the current situation in Damascus, where Zionist forces allegedly exploit vulnerabilities. However, he expressed confidence in Syria’s youth, saying they will ultimately liberate occupied territories and bring an end to Zionist aggression.
On Sunday morning, December 8, reports emerged from Syria announcing the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's rule. Armed groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) reportedly seized Damascus, with news circulating about Assad’s departure from power.
Simultaneously, Israel's military has intensified its operations in Syria. The Israeli air force has so far carried out 61 missile strikes on military sites across the country, while ground forces targeted infrastructure in southeastern Quneitra, including roads, power lines, and water networks.
The situation in Syria remains fluid as tensions escalate and regional powers continue to vie for influence in the war-torn nation.
