Goma (IP) - At least 10 people died when shells fell on the Mugunga displaced persons camp, located west of the city of Goma, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Iran PressAfrica: The Congolese army told Iranpress that the attack was orchestrated by rebels from the March 23 Movement (M23), a rebellion raging in eastern DRC, supported by Rwanda.

"The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo launched offensives against the positions of the Rwandan army and its M23 allies deep in Sake.

These offensives allowed the destruction of the arms and ammunition depots in retaliation, the M23/RDF targeted the Mugunga displaced persons camp, causing the death of 5 people, in particular children who were playing in the courtyard,” lieutenant-colonel Guillaume Ndjike Kaiko, door, spokesperson of the military governor of North Kivu, told Iranpress.

Several other testimonies interviewed by Iranpress also report around ten people killed and around twenty injured. This Saturday morning, the collateral damage is still visible. Faide Suzanne, survivor, was narrowly saved. She told Iranpress that she lost her three little sisters in the bombing. She came to the scene of the tragedy trying to recover everything that was left."We were sitting here when a bomb fell, it killed my three little sisters. I managed to escape and quickly left to call my mother. We don't understand exactly what is happening because they are the M23 rebels who threw bombs.

Several people were injured, they were quickly taken to hospital,” Faide Suzanne, displaced by the war, told Iranpress. An influx of injured people was transported to the CBCA Ndosho hospital for treatment by the International Committee of the Red Cross. 26 injured people, including 16 women and 10 children, were treated by medical teams from CBCA Ndosho hospital. However, the ICRC deplores the death of four children upon their arrival at the hospital.

Some injured people receiving treatment at Ndosho hospital testified to Iranpress that the situation was deplorable. They remember what happened."We were in the Mugunga camp in the Lac Vert district when a bomb thrown by the M23 fell a few meters from us. Several people died and others injured, including me. These are people of good will who brought us urgently here This bomb came from a hill located near Sake. All we ask from our government is that they bring us peace because we are suffering here, we only want peace in. our villages,” Bashogwa Bisimwa told iranpress.

For several months, civilians have been victims of events similar to those of today, in Goma and elsewhere, including incidents involving explosive devices in populated areas. In urban areas, military objectives, civilians and civilian objects are closely intertwined. When fighting approaches, the consequences are often very serious for civilians, one of the heads of the ICRC told Iranpress. The ICRC reminds all parties to the conflict of their obligation to respect and protect civilians."Here, our surgical team received an influx of injured people, 27 people. What is particularly tragic is that the majority of the injured are displaced women and children, people who are vulnerable among the vulnerable and who pay the heaviest price of this conflict They arrived with injuries caused by explosive devices, and these are extremely difficult injuries to treat.

The situation is deplorable and is getting worse and worse because what we always see is. that these are the most deprived people, the most vulnerable, these are displaced women and children who have already fled the fighting and who are still paying the price of the conflict.

We see more and more explosive weapons being used. damage among civilians in heavily populated areas.

This is why we continue to recall the rules of international humanitarian law and to appeal to all parties to the conflict, because it is their duty to ensure that they. are taking all possible precautions to avoid casualties among civilians,” Alyona SYNENKO, ICRC communications officer, told Iranpress.
