In response to remarks by Jared Kushner, the senior adviser to the outgoing US President Donald Trump, about the need to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, Abdul-Salam wrote: "Saudi Arabia's silence on Kushner's remarks shows how far Riyadh has distanced itself from the issues of the Muslim Ummah and in particular the issue of Palestine."
