Iranian people never forget need for freedom, independence

Tehran (IP) - On the occasion of the Islamic Republic Day in Iran, First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri stated that the Iranian people will never forget the need for freedom and independence.

Iran Press/Iran News: Referring to 'Farvardin 12', Islamic Republic Day and the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on April 1, 1979 referendum, Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri wrote on his twitter page: "We commemorate 12th of Farvardin, 1358 (April 1, 1979), the day when the Iranian nation, with full and complete participation in the referendum of the Islamic Republic, voted to legalize their historical will.”

He further noted, “Our people have never forgotten and will never forget the need for freedom, independence, and the Islamic Republic, even in the most difficult times of war, sanctions and epidemic of coronavirus. "

In a landmark two-day referendum less than two months after the triumph of the Islamic Revolution on February 11, 1979, the referendum was held for the formation of the system of government in Iran on March 30 and 31 of the same year, more than 98.2 percent of eligible Iranians voted “yes” to the establishment of the Islamic Republic in the country.

The results of the referendum were announced on April 1 with over 98.2% votes in favor of the Islamic Republic system of government. This historical day came to be known as the "Islamic Republic Day" ever since.
