Cape Town (IP) - The South African Chapter of the Anti-Apartheid Movement against Israel has been launched with calls for extensive global action to isolate Israel and expel it from international organizations such as the United Nations.

Iran Press/Africa: In an interview with Iran Press, in Cape Town, Reverend Frank Chikane, chairman of the South African Steering Committee for the Global Anti-Apartheid Conference hailed the launch as a direct response to a call made by the Palestinian people.

The global Anti-Apartheid Movement against Israel was conceptualized at a conference in May which saw around 400 participants from six continents.

Chapters will now be launched in other countries to apply pressure on their respective governments to end cooperation and support for the Zionist regime.

Chikane remembered that Palestinians said they felt abandoned and therefore turned to South Africa’s anti-Apartheid figures.

“They said to us, you are the only people who could mobilize a similar movement like the one which was responsible for your freedom; The anti-apartheid movement. So we decided to come back home, organize a conference, brought the world.”

He noted that global civil activism is critical because “the superpowers have taken an immoral stand to support genocide”.

Activism will include pressure to force governments to apply economic boycotts, arms embargoes, and comprehensive sanctions against the brutal regime.

This includes actions in which workers refuse to handle products designed for the Zionist mainland.

Chikane said, “We must make Israel too expensive to continue to exist, and make it very difficult for those who support them. I believe that there is a humanity in the world that is committed to justice, and we should be able to force them like we did with South Africa”. 204
