  • Egyptian intelligence chief meets with senior Sudanese officials

During a visit to Sudan on Tuesday, Egypt's General intelligence chief Abbas Kamel held meetings with the chairman of the Sovereignty Council and the Prime Minister to discuss bilateral issues.

Iran PressAfrica: After arriving in Khartoum, the Egyptian intelligence chief met with the head of the Sudanese Chairman of the Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and presented him Egyptian president's message about bilateral relations, ways to strengthen these relations and the common interests between Cairo and Khartoum, Sudanese media reported.

Egypt's intelligence chief also met with Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk to discuss developments around Ethiopia's Ennahda Dam and the efforts to resolve disputes among the three countries involved in it.

Egypt and Sudan have been at loggerheads with Ethiopia in recent months over the catchment of the Ennahda Dam, the division of Nile River, and negotiations over a fair mechanism for the distribution of the Nile water, which these negotiations so far came to no conclusion.

Ethiopia began construction of the Ennahda Dam in April 2011, but severe disputes with Egypt and Sudan delayed the construction and catchment process.

Tensions between Egypt and Sudan over the Ennahda Dam have recently become a reciprocal military threat.
