Iran Press/ Middle East: German forward Niclas Fullkrug’s equalizer in the 83rd minute of a hard-fought match salvaged a much-needed 1-1 draw against Spain during Sunday’s Group E match.
Spain was the dominant side during the scoreless first half, appearing likeliest to score first, despite a disallowed German goal.
Changes at the beginning of the second half also fell mostly to Spain, with substitute Alvaro Morata scoring in the 62nd minute.
The Germans still need to win their last group match to have a chance of advancing to the knockout stage. The four-time champions were eliminated in the group stage four years ago in Russia.
Germany will next face Costa Rica, who defeated Japan 1-0 earlier Sunday. Even a win may not be enough for the Germans, who are in last place in Group E and need the other result to go their way.
