President Hassan Rouhani said that the only way to maintain regional security is to strengthen neighborly friendship and co-operation and prevent foreign interference, stressing the importance of strengthening regional stability and security for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's president made the remarks on Thursday evening in a telephone call from Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, after the assassination of Lt. General Qasem Soleimani.

Rouhani described the assassination of Gen. Soleimani a major crime by the United States, calling for the condemnation of the crime by all countries in the world, especially Iran's neighbors.

He said that the assassination of Lt. Gen. Soleimani as a guest of the Iraqi people and government was a great insult to the sovereignty of Iraq and a very great crime against the Iranian nation.

"The resolution passed by the Iraqi parliament on the need for US troops to withdraw from the country and the broad support of Iraqi people was very valuable," Rouhani stated.

Rouhani also pointed to Iran's military response to the US government's terrorist act, stressing that the US would face a huge and dangerous response if it wanted to respond to Iran's action.

"I hope the Americans, whose political life has always been full of mistakes, do not make another mistake," he said.

The president added: "I hope that at this critical juncture, all countries, seeking security, will take the United States seriously toward law and humanity."

Rouhani also reiterated that Iran will continue to work with the Qatari government and nation to deal with cruel sanctions, as it did in the past.

"We reject any tension against the Islamic Republic of Iran," the Emir of Qatar said for his part, stating that Qatar would not forget the position of the Iranian government and nation regarding sanctions against its country.

The Emir of Qatar, referring to the extensive capacities of the two countries, emphasized that all these capacities should be used to further develop the Tehran-Doha relations in all fields.
