Iran Press/America: Iran's President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks on Wednesday in New York during the meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the seventy-fourth session of the UN General Assembly.
Referring to the progress made regarding Syria and Yemen crisis with the UN cooperation, Rouhani voiced Iran’s readiness to continue its productive collaborations with the organization, describing the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) initiative as a new serious action in which the UN can contribute to establishing security in the region.
Criticizing the inaction and silence of the UN in front of the US’ economic terrorism and the daily crimes of the Zionist Regime, the Iranian President said: “One way or another, the Iranian nation will overcome these problems like the past, but this shame will be recorded in the history that an aggressor government has done economic terrorism against a nation, while the UN remaining silent.”
“Today, Palestine is having hard times and the Zionist Regime has been aggressing this country, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq on a daily basis and the UN has remained silent in front of these crimes. So this procedure has to change and this important international organization must fulfill its duties,” he continued.
Guterres also thanked Iran’s efforts dealing with the Syria crisis, saying, “Good progress has been made in the talks on Yemen.”
The UN Secretary-General went on to say that he supports Iran's Nuclear Deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), adding, “The pact is more than just one agreement since it is part of a UNSC resolution.”
On the sidelines of the summit, Hassan Rouhani has already held talks with the presidents of France and Switzerland, the chancellor of Germany and the prime ministers of Sweden, Britain, Spain, Japan, and Pakistan.
In his address to the UN General Assembly, the Iranian President also unveiled a regional peace plan known as 'Hope' (Hope stands for Hormuz Peace Endeavour) while explaining the regional and international positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
