Iranian and Afghan national security officials have discussed common solutions to terrorist threats in the region and expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Kabul.

Iran news/ According to an Iran Press report, Hamdullah Moheb, National Security Advisor to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan who has travelled to Tehran to attend the first "Regional Security Dialogue" conference, met Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, on Thursday morning and talked about common solutions to terrorist threats in the region as well as expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Kabul.

Ali Shamkhani, emphasizing the necessity of developing broad-based and strategic cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan and the continuation of security talks between the two countries, highlighted the achievement of sustainable solutions to the security of the two countries.

The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, considered historical and cultural commonalities of the two nations to be the basis of deep ties between the two neighbors, which has been the main deterrent to the divisive policies of the enemies.

Shamkhani said: the spread of insecurity and assassination has been the long-standing policy of some powers to deplete national capacities and regional status of Islamic countries, and have always used this tool to justify their military, political and economic interference.

Member of the Iran Expediency Council added: "Lacking enough attention and delay in adopting effective countermeasures against the increasing trend of terrorism will lead to the emergence of a new generation of unpredictable threats, especially in Afghanistan.

Hamdullah Moheb, National Security Advisor of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, congratulated the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran on holding the meeting and stressed that terrorism is a common threat to all and can be defeated by cooperation of all the countries in the region.

Expressing the determination of the Afghan government and nation to develop relations with neighbouring countries, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, he called for continued regional efforts to establish lasting security on the borders and continued fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

The meeting, hosted by Iran's National Security Council and held at Parsian Azadi Hotel in northern Tehran, was attended by security officials from Russia, India, Afghanistan, and China.

Participants at the ‘Regional Security Dialogue’ meeting in Tehran in the final statement said terrorism, narcotics, organized crimes and foreign interference in the region, endanger national security in countries of the region.
