Iran Press/ Middle East: In a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein, Mohammad Javad Zarif said: "If the United States returns to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Tehran will take reciprocal measures after verifying the US actions."
"I talked to the Iraqi Foreign Minister about the 4+1 nuclear talks," he said.
Emphasizing his country's role in resolving regional issues, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein said for his part Baghdad played an important role in bringing peace to the region.
He said that he had talked with Zarif about Iran-US relations and relations with the countries of the Persian Gulf and that Iraq's role in this regard was positive.
He added: "In our meeting today, we addressed bilateral issues, important regional issues, and the international situation."
Hussein stated: "The basis of Iraq's current foreign policy is to establish balanced relations with everyone. "
Referring to Iraq's approach to calming the situation, he added: "Iraq's policy in establishing relations is based on common interests and that the region itself has a say."
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the countries of the region, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said: "We have started our cooperation and discussions with the Iranian side, which has reached an important level."
He added: "Negotiations between the American and Iranian sides have begun in Vienna and we are following it and we are pleased with the progress in this area."
He said: "We also discussed bilateral relations in the economic field and stressed its importance for the two countries, and we hope to develop these bilateral relations after overcoming the challenges of coronavirus."
The Iraqi Foreign Minister once again welcomed his Iranian counterpart and wished him success in his visit, saying that the Iranian Foreign Minister would meet with Iraqi officials and travel to the city of Najaf and the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
