Iranian Foreign Minister met Indian Minister of Transport and Shipping to talk about ways of promoting bilateral ties.

Iran Press/ Asia: In the Tuesday meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Indian Minister of Transport and Shipping 'Nitin Gadkari' discussed ways to enhance bilateral economic cooperation, especially in the realm of transportation and shipping.

The officials also conferred on the latest status of bilateral cooperation in Chabahar port and its role in the regional development, Iran Press reported.

Meeting his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj, India's oil minister and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi are on the Zarif's agenda in this 3 day visit.

The Indian government allowed an Iranian bank to open a branch in Mumbai, Nitin Gadkari said after the meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif.

Iran's Bank Pasargad will open its branch within the next three months.

Gadkari said: "The Government of India has already given permission to Iran to open a bank branch in Mumbai. They are going to open a branch in Mumbai in three months. That will be used for transactions."

Indian Minister of Transport and Shipping termed his meeting with Zarif on Chabahar Port as "fruitful".

"We had detailed discussions... Our meeting was very fruitful and we have resolved a lot of issues," Gadkari said.

“We have had a good discussion with Iran's Foreign Minister. The first ship from Brazil has already been received at Chabahar. The financial arrangement is ready. There were some problems, but we have resolved the issues,” Gadkari said.

“Proposals on barter system between the two nations can also be considered”, Gadkari said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is supposed to deliver speech in a meeting with Indian elites and also in a economic forum which will be held with the attendance of Iranian and Indian economic activists.

Dozens of senior CEOs and entrepreneurs, from both private and public sectors, have accompanied Mohammad Javad Zarif on the 3-day official visit to New Delhi.
