Iran Press/ Europe: Ansari, Iran's cultural attaché, introduced some Iranian traditions, including Hafez pome's recitation and performing traditional Iranian music, for Bosnian Iranian friends at the ceremony of introducing the ancient Yalda celebration on Wednesday night.
In this ceremony, the art of calligraphy, making and playing oud and silk weaving were also introduced to the participants of the Iranian Yalda celebration in Sarajevo.
The oud is a short-neck lute-type, pear-shaped, fretless stringed instrument, usually with 11 strings grouped in six courses, but some models have five or seven courses, with 10 or 13 strings, respectively. The oud is very similar to other types of lute.
Salemian, a professor of Persian language and literature at the University of Sarajevo, also delivered a speech about the tradition of reciting Hafez pomes and the tradition of reading Hafez's fortune on the Iranian Yalda night, during which reader asks Hafez for advice when facing a difficulty or at an important juncture in their life – treating his books as an oracle and opening them with a deep wish from their soul for guidance
Also, Iranian handicrafts and the Iranian Yalda night table were put on display for Bosnians.
