Iran Press/America: Hoax bomb threats, many of which appeared to originate from Russian email domains, were directed at polling locations in three battleground states - Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin - as Election Day voting was underway, the FBI said on Tuesday.
The morning of Election Day, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, claimed that Russia had created bomb scares at polling places in the swing state of Georgia.
“They’re up to mischief it seems,” Raffensperger said at a press conference of Russia’s efforts. “They don’t want us to have a smooth, fair, and accurate election.”
Two voting sites in Union City, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, were temporarily closed due to bomb threats, according to the Election Protection Coalition, which monitors disruptions on Election Day. Union City is nearly 90 percent Black and overwhelmingly Democratic. The county is working to extend voting hours at the affected locations.
On Tuesday morning, five questionable bomb threats were reported. Raffensperger stated that Russia was responsible, with assistance from federal law enforcement in reaching this conclusion.
The presidential race in Georgia is expected to be very close and it is one of the states that could determine who wins the White House.
