Iran Press/ America: At the plenary session of the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly, Majid Takht-Ravanchi noted that in the current situation, while the unprecedented health crisis is still engulfing human societies, coercive unilateral action has fundamentally targeted and crippled countries' health systems, which, in addition to being a crime against humanity, run counter to development goals.
Emphasizing that the unjust and illegal approaches of a small number of countries threaten and undermine multilateralism, even at a time when the world needs it most, Iranian diplomat added that the most important challenge facing humanity right now are two deadly, destructive, anti-growth and anti-development viruses; those are coronavirus and unilateral acts.
Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations went on to point out the unilateral and illegal US sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran and said: "Despite all the pressures and restrictions, including the restrictions resulting from the illegal and unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran has continued to redouble its efforts to build a future full of hope and pride."
Takht-Ravanchi added that as a result of these tireless efforts, according to the 2020 Sustainable Development Report, Iran has been able to rank 59th out of 166 countries in terms of development indicators, and this shows Iran's great achievements despite all the restrictions and pressures.
In the end,Iranian envoy at the United Nations pointed to Iran's key steps in the field of sustainable energy and significant investments made in the country to build and strengthen the relevant infrastructure despite the harsh sanctions. The goal of these efforts is to provide the Iranian public with equal, cost-effective, adequate and sustainable access to energy resources, he added.
"As a result of the efforts made, the average access of the Iranian people to electricity is 99.8 and to natural gas is 95%, which is evidence of achieving the highest level of access to energy for the public in the Islamic Republic of Iran," said Takht-Ravanchi. 219
