The US Treasury Department said on Thursday it sanctioned senior Houthi movement military officer Saleh Mesfer Alshaer, citing what it called unlawful tactics deployed by him.

Iran Press/America: The US Treasury's sanctions come a little over a week after the United Nations Security Council had blacklisted three Houthi leaders.

The US Treasury lists Alshaer as a close ally of Houthi movement leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

As a result of the sanctions, all property and interests in property of Alshaer in the United States or in possession of US persons are blocked and must be reported to the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the department said.

With the support of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries, Saudi Arabia invaded Yemen in March 2015.

The outbreak of war by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions of Yemenis.

The Saudi military aggression has also left the impoverished country of Yemen severely short of food and medicine.

The Saudi regime and its allies have failed to achieve their goals in the war against Yemenis.
