The United States has once again declared its opposition to the gas pipeline project between Iran and Pakistan.

Iran PressAmerica: Donald Lu, the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, expressed America's stance during a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee of the House of Representatives. Lu emphasized that the project was not in Pakistan's best interest, as international companies would not invest in it. He suggested that Islamabad should explore alternative energy sources, such as clean energy, to overcome its energy crisis.

Despite Pakistan's discontent with Washington's interference in its economic projects, the US official stated that efforts to halt the Iranian gas project would continue. This comes after Pakistan's Ministry of Petroleum announced plans to build an 81-kilometer pipeline from Gwadar Port to the Iran-Pakistan border, aiming to strengthen the country's energy security.

In response to US opposition, Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesperson asserted that bilateral projects between Islamabad and Tehran do not require consultation with third parties. The completion of the joint gas project is seen as crucial for Pakistan to import cost-effective gas from Iran and enhance its energy security.
