The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the U.S. of fostering hatred toward political opponents following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the U.S. has a history of attempted assassinations of presidents and presidential candidates, and claimed that the country is "literally fostering hatred toward political opponents."

The shooting occurred at a Trump campaign rally on Saturday, leaving one person dead and two injured. Authorities are investigating the incident as an assassination attempt on the former president, who was wounded but is reported to be safe with only a minor injury to his right ear.

The Republican National Committee has confirmed that Trump will still attend the party's convention in Milwaukee this week, where he is expected to be nominated as the presidential candidate for the November election.
