Iran Press/Europe: Agnes Callamard, the United Nations rapporteur for extrajudicial executions, said on Tuesday that the world has not done enough to ensure justice is done in the case of Khashoggi's murder.
Callamard called for more action from the European Union and the United States over Khashoggi’s assassination by Saudi government operatives at Riyadh’s consulate in Istanbul in 2018, Reuters reported.
“I think it is important to recognize that the international community so far has failed in its duty to ensure that there cannot be immunity or impunity for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi,” Callamard told reporters in Brussels.
Callamard is seeking an international criminal investigation instead of a Saudi trial, but Riyadh has rejected her request.
Khashoggi, disappeared after he entered the Saudi diplomatic mission in the Turkish city on 2 October 2018.
Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince sent a terrorist team to Istanbul, who tortured and murdered Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate, showing his total contempt and disregard for international laws and treaties. It was later proven that many members of the terror team dispatched to Istanbul were personal bodyguards of Mohammad bin Salman and had a very close connection with him.
Hatice Cengiz, Khashoggi's fiancée (wife-to-be), accompanied Callamard on a trip to Brussels and claimed her presence was intended to remind people they were still seeking justice for Jamal Khashoggi.
The EU called on the first anniversary of Khashoggi’s killing for full accountability for all those responsible and said there must be a credible and transparent investigation of the murder. 101/211/207
