The United Nations General Assembly has once again called on Israel to withdraw from the Syrian Golan Heights, which it has occupied since the 1967 war.

Iran Press/America: The resolution, passed on Tuesday, reaffirms the inadmissibility of acquiring territory by force and was approved with 97 votes in favor, 8 against, and 64 abstentions.

The resolution, presented by a group of nations including Bolivia, Cuba, North Korea, and several Arab states, stresses that Israel must withdraw to the pre-1967 borders in line with UN Security Council resolutions. It also declares Israel’s imposition of its laws and jurisdiction over the Golan Heights as "null and void."

The document condemns Israel’s continued occupation of the region, highlighting the illegal nature of settlement activities and other Israeli actions since 1967. It underscores that the ongoing occupation is a major obstacle to achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East.

The resolution also calls for the resumption of peace talks on both the Syrian and Lebanese fronts, urging the international community and key parties to revive negotiations based on Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. Resolution 242, adopted in the wake of the 1967 war, calls for Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories, while Resolution 338, passed in 1973, demands the immediate implementation of Resolution 242.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has been tasked with reporting on the implementation of the resolution to the General Assembly during its 18th session. The General Assembly also expressed grave concern over the stalled peace process and called for efforts to resume talks to pave the way for a peaceful solution.
