Iran Press/Iran news: UN Special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on Monday reiterated the need for respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria and the Syrians are the only ones who will arrange the constitution.
"After one month on October 30th, the constitutional committee will start its work in Geneva , led and owned by Syria, and facilitated by the UN according to UNSC resolution No.2254… it can review the constitution of 2012, amend it or arrange for a new one," Pedersen said during a UNSC session on the situation in Syria as SANA reported.
He added that the agreement to form the committee is based on basic principles that guarantee the respect for Syria’s independence , sovereignty and territorial integrity.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted his envoy's role in facilitating the agreement, adding: "I appreciate the diplomatic engagement of the Governments of Russia, Turkey and Iran in supporting the conclusion of the agreement." 104/209
