In a concerning development from West Asia, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed alarm over the recent Israeli airstrike on the Yemeni city of Hudaydah. The late Saturday attack has resulted in several fatalities and significant injuries, alongside extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.

Iran Press/ West Asia: "The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the reports of airstrikes earlier today in and around the port of Hudaydah in Yemen," his office disclosed in a recent statement. The unsettling event appears to have had severe repercussions, with initial assessments indicating "a number of fatalities and over 80 people injured in this attack," the statement further elaborated.

Highlighting the significant impact on civilians, the UN chief emphasized, "The Secretary-General calls on all concerned to avoid attacks that could harm civilians and damage civilian infrastructure." The strike notably targeted an oil refinery, triggering a vast fire visible from kilometers away, intensifying the distress surrounding the incident.

Guterres called for calm as he remains "deeply concerned about the risk of further escalation in the region" and continues "to urge all to exercise utmost restraint," as reported by TASS.

In retaliation to the aggression, Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the Yemeni army, stated the nation's readiness to confront further hostilities. "Yemen is prepared for a long war with the Israeli regime until it stops the onslaught on the Gaza Strip," Saree declared, signaling potential prolonged conflict if the situation remains unchecked.
