Iran Press/ Europe: The government department cited the need to keep communication channels with Tehran open as relations between the two countries continue on a downward spiral.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly was told by MPs in the House of Commons this week there had been a “major groundswell” in requests for the Rishi Sunak government to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
In a non-binding vote on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, the European legislative body backed an amendment added to an annual foreign policy report that calls for "the EU and its member states to include the IRGC on the EU’s [so-called] terrorist list."
The European Parliament in the resolution welcomed the UK's preparation for the inclusion of the IRGC on its list of so-called terrorist organizations and called on other countries to do the same.
The blacklisting would include the IRGC military force, the Basij force, and the IRGC Quds Force.
