Tosan anti-armor missile is considered one of the first domestic productions of Iran's armed forces using reverse engineering. This weapon can destroy all types of fixed and mobile armored targets equipped with reactive and non-reactive armor, concrete fortifications and naval targets. The technology of this missile has entered the defense cycle of Iran for several years and has been used in the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially in the border areas.
The Tosan missile is an optimized variant of the 9M113 Konkurs anti-armor missile, designed and produced for the first time in the Soviet era.
The guidance of this missile is also semi-automatic line-of-sight command, and the user only has to keep the mark in the camera on the target during the missile's flight.
A two-stage warhead, not too much mass of the missile and launcher, the ability to use ground launchers or mounted on armored vehicles, the low height of the launcher when deployed on the ground and quick preparation for firing are the features of this system.
The Tosan missile has a mass of 26.5 kg, of which 3.2 kg is the warhead. Its range is between 70 and 4000 meters; its maximum speed with the help of its solid fuel propellant is 200 meters per second, its probability of hitting the target is 95% and its penetration rate in the armor depth is up to 670 mm. The range of this missile decreases to 2,500 meters at night.
In Iran, this missile, in addition to being used with a fixed ground launcher, has been installed on equipment such as Safir tactical vehicles and Boraq and BMP-2 personnel carriers. The structure of the Tosan rocket launcher is such that the user is placed at a lower height than the tube containing the rocket, as a result, first of all, he is somewhat protected from the fire of its solid fuel propellant, and also the possibility of hiding in natural or artificial obstacles for greater safety from enemies' fire.
The most important feature of Tosan is that it is armed with two warheads at a distance of 75 meters after firing from the missile launcher and can destroy any target at long distances because its guidance type is "semi-automatic command to the line of sight," known as 'Saclos'.
The missile user places the target in his line of sight from the moment of firing to the collision in the guidance device, the device sends commands to the missile and corrects its path. The guidance device commands the rocket in three main ways, which in the case of the Tosan missile, is through a wire. In this way, the guidance of this missile is semi-automatic and wired, and its control is through the nose wings. This type of guidance makes it easier for the rocket to be fired from camouflaged points, which is why this guidance is used against ground targets such as tanks and shelters. The Tosan missile is designed for infiltration, offensive, and war-and-escape operations and is fully compatible with the principles of asymmetric warfare. If this missile has a 2-stage warhead, it will be called 9m113m.
Other features of Tosan have made it possible to be fired from BMP-2 APC and ground launcher, of course, this launcher can also be installed on a jeep and this missile can be equipped with a night vision thermal camera.
Its length is about 130 cm, its diameter is about 135 mm, its warhead type is heat and its fuel type is solid two-stage. Lightness, the ability to easily carry the launcher, the action speed in identifying targets, the possibility of rapid 360-degree position change, the ability to destroy all types of targets, the ability to be used in classic and irregular wars, relatively long range, reliable guidance, lightness, and the possibility of guiding and controlling it at night are other features of this missile that make it an offensive, penetrating and deadly weapon.
Iran's armed forces use the Tosan missile for infiltration, offensive and war-escape operations, and today this missile is produced in accordance with the principles of heterogeneous combat.
