A million more people are living in poverty in the UK compared to a year ago, according to analysis that lays bare the deepening cost of living crisis in Britain.

Iran Press/Europe: More than half (53%) of people feel poorer now than they did five years ago, research has found.

Six in 10 (59%) people stated that they would expect the new government to prioritise introducing measures to materially enhance their personal financial wellbeing.

Sharp rises in rental values have a greater disproportionate impact on young people, who are less likely to have made it on to the housing ladder and more likely to be living in rental accommodation.

The lender found a third of young people say they are more in debt now than they were 12 months ago, with a further third saying their financial worries have reached the point where they are unable to sleep.
