Tehran (IP) - The 18th meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) General Assembly kicked off on Monday.

Iran PressIran news: During the meeting, the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaili, gave an address.

The OANA meeting works this year under the theme of "New Challenges for Journalism: Technological Innovations and Issues of Trust."

As a long-standing OANA member, Iran presided over the body from 1997 to 2000.

Nominated for OANA presidency during the 17th general assembly summit in Seoul, IRNA will take over the organization this year.

The organization covers two-thirds of the world's population. It now has 44 members from 35 countries in Asia and Oceania.

The OANA was founded in 1961, aiming to promote interactions and cooperation in news, media, and information areas in order to create balance in one-way information flow.
