Tehran (IP) - A commemoration ceremony was held in Tehran to mark the 61st anniversary of Khordad 15 Uprise in 1963 where many people got martyred.

Iran Press/Iran news:  The ceremony held at the Khordad 15 martyr's cemetery in Tehran was participated by people from different walks of life, including veterans of the fight against the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

The veterans delivered speeches and songs were performed in the ceremony in commemoration of the martyrs and the Islamic Revolution.

Today, June 4, 2023 (Khordad 15) is the 60th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's arrests and the beginning of the historic uprise of the Iranian nation against the regime of the Shah, which led to the victory of the Islamic Revolution 16 years later in 1979.

Days before on Ashura day, Rouhaollah Khomeini, who was a usual cleric and not yet the founder of Iran's Islamic Republic, revealed a plot of the Shah's regime, the Capitulation Bill, along with its other crimes.

The bill was supposed to give impunity to all the American military consultants; that is to say, if they committed any crime against the Iranian nationals, such as murdering an Iranian, the Iranian courts would not be allowed to sentence them.

So, in the wake of the audacious speech, the regime's forces stormed into Ayatollah Khomeini's home in Qom, south of Tehran, and arrested the dissident cleric.

The news of the arrest made the people so angry with the regime that they took to the streets in different cities of the country, including Tehran's Varamin and Pishva towns, and held widespread demonstrations against Shah.

During these protests, the Pahlavi regime's forces attacked the people, including the clerics in the Feyziyya School in Qom, killing and injuring a group of people and arresting a large number of them.

The historic uprise turned into the beginning of the Islamic Revolution Movement against the US-backed authoritarian regime of the Shah, preparing the grounds for the formation of the revolution's intellectual, political, and social foundations of the Islamic Revolution.

Ayatollah Khomeini was exiled; he was in Turkey, Iraq, and France from 1964 to 1979.

Over one decade of exile, Imam Khomeini brought the movement into a new phase and did not give up the fight against the regime.

Either in Turkey, Iraq, or Paris, Imam Khomeini was guiding the movement until finally after 15 years of exile returned to his homeland in 1979 and brought the efforts to fruit, the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
