Tehran(IP) -The 6th edition of the International Persian Poetry and Literature Congress celebrated the National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature at Milad Tower, Tehran, on Sunday.

Iran PressIran news: September 18, the anniversary of the demise of Shahriar, a contemporary Iranian poet, has been named the National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature.

As one of the key speakers in the congress President of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, said: "Shahriar proved that Iranians are one nation beyond the difference in language and culture."

Gholam-Ali Hadad-Adel said that Shahriar's poems are critical to indicating Iranian unity.

Also, as the other keynote speaker, President of ECO Cultural Institute, Murodjon Buriboev, stressed that Shahriar's poems never lose their freshness and passion.  

Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Behjat Tabrizi, known as Shahriar, was born in Tabriz in 1903 and died on September 18, 1988.

Shahriar wrote in both Azerbaijani and Persian. His most important work, 'Heydar Babaya Salam,' is considered the pinnacle in Azerbaijani literature, which gained tremendous popularity in the Turkic world and was translated into more than 30 languages.
