Iranian Foreign Minister, referring to pressures and threats from the U.S. Government against the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated that the written proposal received from the United States contains many ambiguities and questions.

Why it matters:

These remarks by the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reflect Iran’s firm stance against U.S. pressure and its emphasis on its right to nuclear enrichment.

What he's saying:

Speaking on Tuesday at the signing ceremony of the Arabic translation of his book "Negotiations: the Power of Diplomacy" in Beirut, Araghchi commented on the U.S. proposal regarding the ongoing nuclear talks: “The written proposal we received from the United States contains many ambiguities and questions, and many aspects of this proposal are unclear.”

Araghchi further stated, “We will provide an appropriate response in the coming days based on our principled positions and the interests of the Iranian people.” He emphasized that continuing uranium enrichment on Iranian soil is a red line, asserting, “This is a reality that I believe all countries have recognized, and we do not seek permission from anyone to continue uranium enrichment in Iran.”
