Poland has been handed a bye to this month's World Cup playoff finals by the world football's governing body FIFA.

Iran PressEurope: FIFA awarded Poland a bye through its playoff semifinal against Russia that was scheduled on March 24. That decision was tested by an urgent Russian appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against a FIFA ban on its national teams.

But the world football's governing body turf Russia out of World Cup contention following the country's special military operation in Ukraine.

With scant consideration for the update from CAS on Tuesday, FIFA announced that Poland will move through to the final of their playoff path, and will meet either the Czechs or Sweden for a place in April's group stage draw for Qatar 2022.

FIFA said it will now organize the Scotland-Ukraine game in June during the next fixture dates protected for national teams.
