Damascus (IP)- The Syrian Foreign Minister said that Damascus is confident that the Iraqi government will not allow the use of that country's territory by the U.S. forces to attack Syria.

Iran PressMiddle East: Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad made the remarks in a press conference with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Damascus late on Wednesday.

In response to reporters regarding the presence of American forces in Syria and Iraq, he said: "When have we not seen provocations and the presence of American forces in the region?" Years ago, they were present in Lebanon, but they finally left. They were in Iraq, they left, but they came back again.

We heard from Iraqi leaders that they do not need the presence of Americans and only want training forces. They had bases all over the region and on different continents, the Syrian minister added."The main reason for the presence of American forces was to cut off the connection between Syria and Iraq and to affect our border connection with Jordan.

Under the excuse of the presence of ISIS, they tried to organize terrorist groups against the Syrian government. We believe that our brothers in Iraq regained their independence a long time ago and will not allow such attacks to be carried out against Syria.

Amir-Abdollahian also said: Today, Iraq's borders with neighboring countries, including Syria, are borders of friendship. America should stop harassing the people of the region.

We advise the American soldiers to return to their homes and we advise the U.S. officials to leave the region to the people of the region. No party can block the historical transportation routes of the region."We believe that these actions do not match the claim of human rights of Westerners and Americans," Iran's top diplomat highlighted.

Amir-Abdollahian: Iran determined to offer support for Syria

“We have held long and constructive discussions with Prime Minister and Mr. Mekdad around bilateral relations and international issues,” Iran's FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in his press conference with his Syrian counterpart in Damascus.

He added that the two sides discussed combating terrorism and the American actions to re-organize the terrorist groups and the US forces’ illegitimate presence on Syrian territory on the pretext of fighting terrorism.

“We are keen on offering support to Syria, as leadership, people, and army till reaching stability of situation and progress,” Iran's top diplomat said, adding, added that establishing relations between Syria and Turkey, based on good neighborhoods and respect for Syria’s sovereignty, creates a positive environment in the region.

Amir-Abdollahian stressed that the quartet meetings among Syria, Russia, Iran, and Turkiye have proposed positive ideas about respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faisal Mekdad, said that the resilience of Syrian and Iranian people in the face of Western conspiracies is heroic and reflects the support of both people to their leadership and the brave policies both countries are following.

“We have discussed challenges to which Syria and Iran are exposed, and the continuation of the long-term hostile policies by Washington and the West against us, particularly investing in terrorism in order to achieve known-to-all political purposes,” Mekdad underscored.

“We have also reviewed the situation in Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan, and affirmed the importance of resilience of the Palestinian people and Golan citizens and the inevitability of their victory over the brutal practices of the Israeli occupation on a daily basis,” the Syrian top diplomat noted.

He added that both sides discussed, in detail, the most important international developments, the latest of which is the expansion of the BRICS group which boosts the multi-polarity as the only way for problems in today’s world.
