Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Persian Gulf is a part of the region's joint historical and cultural identity.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, May 1, Nasser Kanaani told reporters that the Persian Gulf, by name, is not only a marine geography in the region but also a part of the region's cultural and historical identity.

Kanaani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the relations, established based on good neighborliness with all of the Persian Gulf's littoral countries, the key element to reach common security and always puts emphasis on it.

Iran's principal policy addresses in the first place the neighbors and the maintenance of collective security with the participation of all regional countries, particularly the Persian Gulf countries.

Iran's water share from Hirmand should be fulfilled

The spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs at his weekly press conference added: "The fulfillment of Iran's water share from the common rivers with Afghanistan is generally emphasized by the administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran."

"This issue is seriously raised in our talks with all our neighbors and it is part of our permanent agenda in bilateral and multilateral talks with them," he said.

Nasser Kanaani said that the allocation of the Hirmand River's water right to Iran can be seriously pursued and is part of the fixed agenda with the Afghan parties.

He said that Afghans, fortunately, admitted to Iran's right from the river. And in the last round of negotiations, held between the foreign ministers of the two countries, they emphasized Iran's rights.

"They expressed unacceptable technical reasons and excuses for not fulfilling their obligations, and we are ready to send our technical team to check the dam and fix the very technical issues," the Iranian MFA spokesman told the reporters.

"The Special Representative of the President of Iran in Afghanistan, who is also the head of the Iranian embassy in Kabul, follows up on the issue," Kanaani added.

He expressed hope that the Afghan side adheres to international agreements and does not fail to fulfill its obligations to Iran and give it its full rights.

Kazemi Qomi will be the head of the Iranian delegation for the Doha meeting

Nasser Kanaani announced the holding of a meeting in Doha regarding Afghanistan and said that Mr. Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of the president for Afghanistan affairs, will be the head of the Iranian delegation.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs further added: "The Doha meeting is important. It is the first political and diplomatic meeting at this level hosted by the United Nations, which will be held in Doha, and the Secretary General of the United Nations will also participate in it and give a speech. "Iran will have a serious and effective presence and will announce its views regarding Afghanistan," he noted.

Efforts to revive the JCPOA are continuing

Elsewhere in his presser, the spokesman said that the lack of negotiations and meetings regarding the JCPOA does not mean that diplomatic efforts to revive the nuclear deal have stopped.

"The path of diplomacy is still open and the exchange of messages is still going on and different paths are active for exchanging these messages," Nasser Kanaani noted.

"The Islamic Republic is ready to conclude negotiations by observing the red lines, but the path of negotiations will not be open forever," the spokesman warned.

Referring to the news published about the secret European meeting to activate the trigger mechanism, he said: "We are seeing movements by some Europeans, but if they make a miscalculation and take illogical actions in the process of JCPOA and negotiations, we have earlier told them that they will face consequences."
