Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, met with the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani in Tehran on Wednesday morning.

 Iran Press/Iran news: The meeting took place before the start of a regional security dialogue in Tehran on Wednesday morning.

During the meeting, Ali Shamkhani referred to the successful history of the two countries' strategic cooperation in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing the need for further strengthening of Tehran-Moscow cooperation to bolster stability and security in the region,  Iran Press reported.

Shamkhani described the holding of the Second Regional Security Dialogue and the active participation of Russia and other countries in the meeting as a sign of the strong determination of regional countries to expand peace and security in the region.

Admiral Shamkhani added: "Non-regional countries, especially the United States, as well as the Zionist regime, want insecurity in this region. However, cooperation among countries of this region can ensure peace and stability here."

The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) appreciated Russia's stance with regards to America's unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Moscow's support for Tehran's incremental reduction of its obligations under JCPOA, because of America's withdrawal and Europe's failure to honour its JCPOA commitments.

"If Europe continues its inactive policy, we will take the next steps to balance the commitments," he added.

Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, for his part, called the regional security dialogues a sign of the regional countries' sense of responsibility for peace and stability.

Patrushev emphasized the need for all sides to work together to establish security and stability in Syria, adding that to prevent the re-emerge of terrorism in Syria, continuing political initiatives within the Astana process is crucial.

The Russian official described the JCPOA as an internationally binding agreement, stating: "Iran's enjoyment of its legal rights in this agreement and detailed implementation of obligations by the other countries is an inevitable necessity for maintaining the JCPOA." 101/207/211
