Tehran (IP) - The former chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, has stressed that Britain flouted international law by impounding an Iranian oil tanker off the coast of Gibraltar.

Iran Press/ Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Monday, the former chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said: "The UK is bewildered and in a quandary about what to do, because of the mistake it made earlier, flouting international law and impounding an Iranian oil tanker; the British really didn't expect the repercussions of their move, and now they don't know what to do, and they are playing into the hand of the Americans; the British are entering a game designed by the Americans."

"The UK is playing in the American field, but even those countries that are normally US allies, and are normally in the US camp, have refused to enter the US-designed game in the Persian Gulf," the senior MP added.

In further remarks, Falahatpisheh added: "Not only Iran's treatment with Britain was not suicidal but also complied with international rules and regulations and it was Britain who violated and contravened international laws by seizing the Iranian tanker."

The Irnain Parliamentarian added: "By seizing Iran's oil tanker, the UK infringed international laws."

Falahatpisheh concluded: "Britain cannot make its own mind and has no clear and definite approach to lessen the regional tension, given the fact that Britiain is playing the US game. The UK has never had an independent role both in the region and in the wider world for the past fifty years at least."
