The Secretary-General of Hezbollah has hailed the gatherings held in support of the Holy Quran, warning Sweden that pursuing the escalation would be classified as a war declaration against Islam.

Iran PressMiddle East: Delivering a speech during the commemoration of the fifth night of Ashura ceremonies in the southern suburb of Beirut on Saturday, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah underlined the diplomatic measures taken by Iraq and Iran against Sweden in this regard.

Sayyed Nasrallah also called for escalating the countermeasures and cutting the diplomatic as well as economic ties with Sweden, adding that the Swedish apologies are not enough.

Hezbollah leader also warned Sweden that pursuing this escalation would be classified as a war declaration against Islam, calling on the Swedish officials to consider the remarks of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei in this regard.

Sayyed Nasrallah indicated that the United States has started a long-term scheme to pervade homosexuality across the world, adding that Western societies will pay the heaviest price and collapse.

He underscored the importance of coping with this scheme, noting that Arab societies possess moral immunity to face the phenomenon that contradicts the laws of nature.

Moreover, the Hezbollah chief hailed Iraq for its response to the desecration of the Holy text after it summoned its Chargé d'Affaires from Sweden and expelled Stockholm's ambassador.

"If the assessment about the Mossad being behind [the burning of the Quran] in Sweden is correct, we are before a precedent that will reoccur, and this requires a solid public and official stance," the Lebanese resistance chief stressed.

"Together, we can go through this battle and reach the day when we prevent any encroachment on our symbols and sacred places", he said, praising the protests in Lebanese cities denouncing the desecration of the Holy book.

However, he also called on the public not to take any individual actions, for they might harm the course of battle. "We must not allow for any party to fish in troubled waters in Lebanon."

Earlier in the day, mass rallies took place on Saturday in protest of the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark and the attempts to insult Iraq and religious sanctities.

Demonstrations ignited in the streets of Baghdad as protestors responded to the rallying cry of the coordinating framework, calling for a mass display of dissent against the recent desecration of religious sanctities.

The central square of the capital witnessed a fervent gathering as protesters set ablaze the Swedish national flag while proudly hoisting the Iraqi flag in its place.
