Iran Press/ Africa: Earlier today (Friday), Tagesse Chafo, the Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Representatives, engaged in discussions with Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly. Qalibaf is leading a parliamentary delegation to Addis Ababa with the objective of enhancing bilateral relations.
In this meeting, Iran's Parliament Speaker emphasized the importance of establishing the Ethiopian embassy in Tehran and stated: "This step could be the beginning of developing relations in the economic and political fields. Today, issues between countries, especially at the regional and international levels, have rapid and significant impacts."
Referring to the release of four Ethiopian sailors from Iranian prisons, Qalibaf noted: "This issue was carried out through internal follow-up in Iran and could have been resolved more quickly with the presence of the Ethiopian embassy in Iran."
Qalibaf added: "Ethiopia's position in East Africa and the Horn of Africa is strategically significant, especially in ensuring regional security and stability. Strengthening economic relations and regional security will be very effective in this regard. The definite policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are that it attaches importance to expanding relations with African countries, especially Ethiopia, given the cultural background between the two countries."
Speakers of the two parliaments held discussions on economic, political and cultural issues to foster cooperation between Ethiopia and Iran.
Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening ties to foster mutual development between the two countries.
Expressing commitment to building robust partnerships between the two countries, both speakers reiterated the potential for collaboration in various sectors, including agriculture, technology, and infrastructure development.
They expressed optimism about the future of Ethiopian-Iranian relations, stressing that both nations share common interests to harness mutual benefits.
The two sides also touched upon cultural exchanges, recognizing the rich histories and traditions of both nations with underlining potential for educational collaboration and people-to-people exchanges that would foster understanding and goodwill between the two countries.
Ethiopia and Iran continued to strengthen their diplomatic ties, the partnership would yield tangible benefits for both nations and the region at large, they underscored.
The Iranian delegation led by Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday for official visit to Ethiopia.
The delegation visited Adwa Victory Memorial, which stands as a powerful symbol of black triumph.
Qalibaf admired the remarkable transformation that Ethiopia has undergone in recent years.
