Prisoner swap not confirmed: Iran Envoy to UN

New York (IP) - Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations has not confirmed the agreement between Iran and the United States on the mutual release of prisoners as media reports suggested.

Iran PressAmerica: Majid Takht-Ravanchi, on Sunday, in response to the news of some media outlets that Iran and the United States have agreed to release eight prisoners and release seven billion dollars of frozen Iranian money, said: "This news is not confirmed."

He added that Iran has always emphasized the comprehensive prisoner swap between the two countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly proposed the exchange of prisoners between the two sides, but the American side has evaded it under false pretexts.

Some Iranians are being held in US prisons only on charges of ignoring illegal and unilateral US sanctions against Iran.
