According to an Iran Press report, President Rouhani will visit China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO ) heads of state summit. The summit will be held in the Chinese city of Qingdao, on 9th and 10th June.
The major topics of discussion at the SCO heads of state summit will be regional security and stability, the fight against terrorism, combating extremism, separatist movements, and development and expansion of cooperation between SCO member states.
In addition to participating at the heads of state summit, president Rouhani is also expected to have face-to-face meetings with world leaders who will gather at Qingdao , including Chinese President Xi Jinping , and Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
During his three-day stay in China, Rouhani will also sign four cooperation agreements between Tehran and Beijing, on a range of subjects, such as fighting drug trafficking and organized crime, Iran playing a more prominent role in China's "one road - one belt initiative", cooperation between Iranian and Chinese universities , and cooperation between Tehran and Beijing stock exchanges, on shares, stocks and bonds.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO ) was set up in 2001, as a regional security and economic cooperation organization in Asia. Its permanent members are China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The Islamic Republic of Iran has observer status within the SCO, and may become a full member in due course.
