TEHRAN - President Ebrahim Raisi of the Islamic Republic of Iran made a visit to the booths of the 34th International Book Fair, held at the Grand Mosalla Mosque of Tehran. During his visit, he underscored the need to prioritize original authorship over excessive reliance on translations in the publishing industry.

Iran Press/Iran news: The 34th edition of the Tehran International Book Fair, which commenced last Wednesday (May 10) both in-person at Imam Khomeini's mosque and virtually on the ketab.ir website, will run until May 20.

The international section of the fair boasts the presence of 30 distinguished guests from various countries, representing 27 nations in total.

This year's edition adopted the motto "The future is readable," reflecting the organizers' commitment to promoting a culture of reading.

President Raisi, accompanied by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, engaged in a two-and-a-half-hour visit, where he met with publishers and industry activists to address their concerns and insights on the world of books and publishing.

Particular attention was given to the authors and publishers working in the realm of children's and adolescent literature. President Raisi stressed the importance of discouraging an overemphasis on translated works at the expense of original authorship in the publishing field. He drew parallels with the significance of nutrition and physical health in children's lives, highlighting the government's sensitivity towards teenagers and the need for careful planning to safeguard their intellectual well-being and ideas.

President Raisi highlighted several key points during his meeting with publishers and book activists. These included the imperative of creating suitable and contemporary content for children and teenagers to foster their intellectual and cultural development. He also advocated for leveraging the thoughts and creativity of young people in the authoring and writing of books. Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity for collaboration between the Ministries of Culture, Guidance, and Education, along with the private sector, to publish informative books tailored to the needs of children and teenagers. Lastly, President Raisi emphasized the importance of ensuring widespread distribution and affordable access to books for readers and book lovers across the country.

President Raisi's visit to the International Book Fair underscored the Iranian government's commitment to promoting originality and nurturing the intellectual growth of young readers, while fostering collaboration and accessibility in the publishing industry.
