Iraq (IP) – Issuing a statement on Monday, Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Unit (al-Hashd al-Sha'abi) announced that a terrorist network that planned to carry out a suicide attack in Kirkuk had been disbnaded.

Iran PressMiddle East: Despite the defeat of ISIS in Iraq, the remnants of this terrorist group continue to carry out terrorist operations against Iraqi citizens and soldiers in parts of Baghdad, the capital, and the provinces of Diyala, Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Anbar.

"The security and intelligence forces in Kirkuk annihilated a terrorist network that intended to conduct several suicide operations in Kirkuk Province," the statement reads.

Two terrorist elements affiliated with the ISIS terror outfit were detained during the operation, according to the statement.

In December 2017, after nearly three and a half years of fighting with the ISIS terror outfit, which occupied about a third of Iraq, the Iraqi government announced the liberation of all its territories from ISIS hands.

The remaining ISIS elements are still operating in some areas of Baghdad, Saladin, Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Al Anbar provinces.
