Iran Press/Iran news: The Persian Gulf is a waterway which is connected to the Sea of Oman, and thus to the Indian Ocean, and is sandwiched between Iran and the Arabian peninsula. Since ancient times this body of water has been known as 'the Persian Gulf' or 'the Sea of Pars' or 'the Sea of Fars' in many different languages.
The ancient Greeks believed that the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Pars was one of four major seas, all of them being connected to a vast ocean as large as the planet earth.
According to an Iran Press report, today the Persian Gulf, and the Straight of Hormoz, is a very important and strategic waterway -- an artery -- through which most of the world's crude oil, petrochemicals and fossil fuels pass.
Since ancient times this strategic waterway has been inextricably linked with Iran or Persia, and even in the oldest of historical records, and the oldest official documents and records, this waterway has always been referred to as 'the Persian Gulf' or 'the Sea of Pars' or 'the Sea of Fars'.
In recent years however, some regional Arab countries on the edge of the Persian Gulf, egged on by Western powers hostile towards Iran, have deliberately tried to change or distort the well-known name of this ancient body of water, going against all historic documents and records, and some might say have tried to 'rewrite history'.
This ill-judged and malicious effort is bound to fail, it will never pass the test of time, and the Persian Gulf will be known forever as the Persian Gulf, not just in Iran but throughout the world.
